edu links

Hi all,

I have a chance to get a couple of .edu links from friends. I have a software site and they are studying completly unrelated topics. So I can get an edu link but from a history related page.

Is that good? can it hurt?

Joe

That wont hurt one bit and is very good.

Any .gov, .edu, ect site that you get are no matter what going to help and could never possibly hurt you.

Thank you

Thanks guys,

A couple of questions:

1. How much is an edu link worth? Is it 10 times better then a regular link is it better then an authority site link?

2. This forum is the best - I never say these kind of things, but really, it is.

3. How do you rise in the ranks here?

I apologize for the newbie questions

I'll take any EDU link that I can get!
I'd tell you a few places that are easy to get links from, but I dont want to give away my secrets. The advice that I can give is... think out of the box with .edu's.

Hell, you didn't just say that

Spent too many years in a corporate environment where all those sayings were bandied about and that just gave me a flashback

Not all edu links are worth a fortune. The guestbook spam is probably not worth too much for example. But, yes get the edu links and if content is not relevant try to get your friends to embed your link in a paragraph of relevant content.

So for a link from an edu history page to your software page, try to get your link in the middle of a paragraph about the history of software down the bottom of the page or somewhere your friend can live with.

The .edu links will help build the trust of your site, but I don't know they'll be any kind of magic link. Trust is ever growing in the algorithm though it's certainly not the only part of the equation.

Now having said that. Of course get the link if you can. Can't see any way it would hurt at all and can only help and take James' advice above and see if your friends can add a little content to help make the link more relevant.
