Most probably a new Google update is under the veil though no such official declarations are made by google.

Read more hear: seroundtable.com/google-update-january-16230.html

Mine and many other sites of my friends have got affected remarkably. So there are strong signs of an update. After google declares any such news and looking at the figures about which sites are affected and what this update was about, one can predict the new rules and restrictions in seo. Nothing before that.

Actually it has been confirmed on the Google Twitter account.
Google Twitter account notes: "New Panda data refresh rolling out today: 1.2% of English queries affected. Background: http://goo.gl/8Zqy1".

I got hit too and it wasn't for English keywords. But, strangely enough, even though I stick to the same linking tactics for all my keywords, some of them were hit and some of them received better rankings. How can some be seen as spam and others don't?

I am not sure but as a normal user of Google it's fair to say whether there's any reasonable change in rankings of keywords.

Yeah it is not being published yet, but there is going to be something major. Matt cuts has taken a month off from the Twitter, So there is no update about it. Hope there is an official declaration by Google soon.
