My Site and Blog have duplicate content - problem?

Good morning -

I have a site and a blog (I use the blog to post articles)
For example the site is at www.xyz.com and the blog is www.xyz.com/articles.

Within the site I list the introduction to many of the articles and have a read more button which brings them to the full article in my blog posting.

The reason I do this is 1: Articles can be lengthy and I need the real estate on the page for other site features. 2: Having them link to a full length version in a blog format allows them to leave comments.

Since the blog essentially repeats the intro paragraph in the full version, am I penalizing myself? If so, what is the best way to handle this issue. I cannot consolidate my blog and main site, but would like users to be able to link to a full version with archives and comments that a blog can provide.

I welcome any ideas or opinions. As of right now, the concept flows pretty well as people who click 'read more' usually end up browsing through the articles in the blog format and those who don't 'read more' follow the other site features that are viewable because the article does not take up all the space on the main site pages.

Thanks for any support.

IMHO-

You have no problem if you do it as described. Should work fine. You are simply excerpting and conserving pixels.

Best;

Sounds solid, I don't think your bordering duplicate content et all. The intro is a great way to lead into an article or event. Plus it keeps the end user or reader interested in what your publishing if you lead them into the article with a short catchy intro...

Thanks for all the input.

The intro is the title + the first 3-4 lines of the article. When it links to "read more" it links to the new 'blog' page with the original first 3-4 lines, plus the rest of the article.

Just wanted to confirm this will be OK.

I think you'll be fine too though if you want to ensure a little more uniqueness you can list several intros to articles on a single page.
