What is meant by the term doorway pages?

Doorway pages are made specifically to rank well in search engines for particular keywords. Doorway pages serve as entry point through which visitors pass to main site. But these pages are considered as black hat technique by search engines.

thanks for the response, I am not planing on making any, just read an article about them and didn't know what they were.

so basically they are pages made to rank well in Google. meaning what?? they are just key word stuffed and specific anchor links back to them?

Doorway is such a loose term. Its kind of relative to what you think could OR isn't a door way page. Something I view as a nice category page that is structered in with a sitemap could be perceived or viewed by someone else as a doorway type page.

Hard to say. Traditionally, doorways pages have very little content and are concentrated on targeting one or two keywords, with little thought given to design or navigation.

Although I agree with what you say about "doorway relativity" 100%, to me that page does look like a doorway, but only because the links on the left give it away. That could only be the work of an SEO thinking about keywords, which is unavoidable, so what can you do? Apart from that, no it doesn't.

Jeez I wish I could write that good. My girlfriend understands the seo elements that were needed so she wrote the page descriptions knowing that each one needed to be unique and no spammy. All I had to do was devise a plan, a menu, implement her text and publish all the pages.

After brainstorming all the words the example client wanted to rank for, we divided them up into 3 categories and made a sitemap that is included on all the landing pages thus creating internal link popularity.

Started in 2004, the whole SEO project went through real well. This client made it into the top 5 or 10 for almost every keyword or category we created. The hardest one being the words " film production. "
