Does anyone use the table summary tag anymore?

e.g.

Can search engines read this content?

exactly what I was just typing when you posted Spear. Google reads everything, what is uses is a different matter. I have never used table summaries, but i may test the idea.

Don't forget title="" as well in tables.

Do they work? Not sure. And for Google I wouldn't expect it. However, as a general process of SEO I don't see any reason why not to. Just don't expect too much from in-code elements.

In my new site designs I try to include every possible code element, even if it is assummed Google doesnt use it. Other engines might, Google might.

What I meant was that the example code above came from a site, which appeared for a keyword phrase searched for on Inktomi.

I'm pretty certain that Inktomi factors link popularity into its results as well, so don't place too much emphasis on on-page elements.
