same product different name

I have released the same product with little variations under two names. they are aimed at completely different markets, however the FAQ for the two pages is the same. will this be viewed as dup content?

links within the FAQ and certain words have been changed but for the most part it remains similar.

the faq on 99% of all phpBB forums is the same (as people never think to change it)... that doesn't get sites slammed. But, I am no seo pro and if it was my site, I'd just reword it a little and put the questions in different orders.

If they are exactly the same other than the product name and also on the same domain it probably will be considered duplicate. All it would likely mean though is that one of those two pages wouldn't make it into the index or search results so if you don't need to have both show up it might not be a big deal.

I assume you want both to show up though, so you may just want to rewrite one of the pages as much as you can. If the idea for the two names is two different markets I would think both markets respond to slightly different language and rewriting one of the pages would make sense for visiots as well.

Definitely use different page titles and try to make anything else on the pages different as well. As much as you can anyway.

Can the FAQ be written so it doesn't mention the product name. I'm guessing not, but if it can then you could possibly point both products to that same page.

I think the best thing to do is just try to rewrite one of the pages as best you can so the pages are as different as you can make them.

vangogh,

thanks that is what i have been doing. the products names are different so that is never a problem in FAQ. i have changed the order of them and tried to re-write them as much as possible.

i am not to concerned if they pages show up in the index, however it would be better to not have them banned.

does Google band specific pages with dup content, or the whole domain??

there is little variation between the two FAQ i am just hoping Google still does not see this as dup content.

I'm as sure as I can be that one of the pages in question would just be dumped, I don't think you'd get any more penalty than that. What vangogh said was the best advice.
