why not simply submit your *interesting* content directly to wikipedia and get a link back to your own website ?? ;-)

All the content you post to your blog, ends up on Wikipedia? I doubt that.

If so, just go and edit the Wikipedia page itself, by either removing your content, or referencing it to your site.

One does not simply beat Wikipedia in search results.

If you can't get above wikipedia then focus on making your snippet (title, description) steal peoples attention from it.

If it's a blog then set up your authorship with Google+ so your snippet may be enhanced with a photo and reference back to you as the author.

Search Google for instructions. I did the dirty work for you. https://plus.google.com/authorship

glad atleast people thinks for same to beat wiki ..

yes you can beat wiki ..

but many guts requires for same ...

do as below ..

1st) write lengthy and unique content ..
2nd) add google plus authorship url in same
3rd) add image and media in same article ..
4th) give proper meta naming and url syntax ..
5th) put your main focused keyword with good quantity (dont overrule keyword density) in article ..
6th) try to put main keywords or related variant keyword in h1 and h2 tag
7th) do a lil bit rss feed submission if your article is inside your blog
8th) if this all above doesnt work generate some good quality backlinks ..

Wikipedia, about.com these are authority sites and they are really very hard to defeat them.. one thing you would notice that they are ranking for a word, phrase etc.. in this case, if you have a long tail keywords, at least three words keyword then you have done good on-page optimization for the keyword, if you would keep working for that keyword then you can rank above Wikipedia as they are ranking for a part of your keyword.
