You have to work on your Website. On page as well as Off Page Optimization tech. You have to link your website to Pure high PR links which will boost your website to get high traffic and even it will help to get your keywords in top 10 positions.

SEO is not an easy thing to learn and there is always something to learn each and everyday. I took a week off from the online world and a few changes happened and I was totally lost for awhile. lol

To get you started in SEO, you should first read the Google SEO starter guide. It's free to read which is fantastic.

https://static.googleusercontent.com...rter-guide.pdf

Here is another guide to take a look at: http://moz.com/learn/seo

Don't forget to just ask questions about SEO on this forum. There are plenty of SEO experts lurking around in this forum to answer your question's.

Learn the basic first, understand the meaning, what is on and off-page in terms of SEO? Read seo books, there are a lot of resources where you can read updates how seo works now a days. You can read articles here, searchenginwatch, searchengineland and searchenginejournal, one of too many resources on SEO based on Google algorithm updates. Unfortunately i cannot post a link here just type it on Google.

In regards to your question, there are a plethora of sites that can assist you with learning about seo. Here below are some examples of sites that I have found that assisted myself with getting a better handle on SEO. Keep in mind that reading and research is an important aspect of educating oneself about SEO.

http://searchengineland.com/guide/seo

SearchEngineLand is considered very reputable by many and has a variety of tutorials that covers topics such as Link Building and Social Media.

http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-se...ngines-operate

A very relevant and up to date website that has a lot of SEO info that is translated in an easy to understand manner for those not familiar in the industry.

http://accretewebsolutions.ca/articl...er-guidelines/

This site has a brief synopsis of all the webmaster guidelines for all three major search engines.

http://v7n.com/forums/seo-forum/1772...o-tip-day.html

Pretty much this thread on this forum is self explanatory but it's good to visit it every day and learn something new about the SEO industry.

http://theshortcutts.com/

Matt Cutts currently heads the Webspam team at Google. He works with the Search Quality team on search engine optimization issues and from time to time answers a variety of different questions regarding topics of SEO. The best part as for me is that the videos are often very short and to the point and the information is coming from a member of their Webspam team. Hopefully the information provided will be of use in your SEO endeavors.

The best advice I can give is to listen to Matt Cutts. (Rofl, I'm going to get some hatemail for saying that).

He's always emphasizing that you should create GOOD content that people actually value, read, and share.

That's the future of SEO you know.

Google wants to promote content that people actually LOVE. The best indicator of that is social sharing.

My hypothesis, that content that's shared virally and on social networks will be the best determinate of what's acceptable content, and THAT content will rank in the Serps.

So.. How to learn SEO?

Learn how to create content that people love, share, read, and thank you for.

:]

And always listen to that Matt Cutts dude.

He may be on to something.

(Just my $)

"And always listen to that Matt Cutts dude."

Yeah, if you want to end up in SEO hell.

Matt Cutts is face of Googles Spam department.

He is not an independent voice or researcher - he says what Google marketers etc wants him to say.

He has been saying similar stuff since couple of years already - he wont say any more than what you can find in Google guidelines.

Closed communities and forums are the way to get real SEO knowledge.
Also niche blogs are pretty good.

I will contribute and share my thoughts because the question "Hello all, as I'm new to seo I want to learn it so please help I must get my site top on Google" has brought back good old memories ;-)

There are two ways to learn SEO
1 is the basic way (rather an overall understanding)
2 is the technical nitty-gritty side of SEO
Now the question is asked as to "I want to get my website in Google" and if you search for your URL then you will see that it is already on Google (if you been online for little while that is)
So what you are asking can have two answers:
1 = learn how to conduct thorough keyword research and basics of on page SEO (which are nothing more than good web design principles (clean code, heading tags that are informative, content that answers the search query of your potential customers and page name and navigation which mentions some of your chosen keywords). (Blog especially if you want to target long tail keywords and build yourself online) (Don't blog if you are in a field which doesn't need you to put out content often to create rather an authority for your products/services etc. Instead you can give your time resources by coming up with clever ways to market your website (Online or offline, as it makes no difference, because marketing is just that, marketing till you establish yourself) Remember, keywords are the key for SEO.

2 = you can if you truly want to learn SEO, learn from others, especially Google guidelines
https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/35769?hl=en
and to be a good SEOptimizer then you also should take a look at
http://www.google.com.au/insidesearch/searcheducation/
Because you will have to spend alot of time researching online, thus, learning how to search will save time in the long run. But be warned, this pathway which is mentioned as a result of your question, may be a long road to tread, so, if you want to learn SEO, there really is two answers. So choose carefully

Of course, SEO is very complex subject to learn, you need to keep yourself updated with the changes happening time to time.

As you are new to SEO so I would suggest that participating in this forum or other SEO forums on regular basis would solve lots of your question.

Other thing is try to learn it practically, create a free blog on blogger and other platform and implement your SEO technique what you have learned from participating in a forum, this thing would really help you a lot.

I think that an excellent start for you would be to start out by taking a few SEO courses at lynda.com. That way you will learn SEO in sequence, rather than learning a little bit here and a little bit there.

If I were you, I would start a new website, choose a forum (*like this one) and start reading the topics (do not start a new topic for any question if you could find it in the search box!)... Then what you understood try to make it for your website/blog! Both On-Page and Off-Page SEO!

You have to get a lot of links. You don't need to learn SEO. SEO = Logical link building system for me. You can research new websites for getting link from them.

If you build website with wordpress, it will set on page SEO for you.
