Advice on changing forum directory

Hi folks, got a strange question here, but I am thinking this may be something that could help the forum section of my website.

My forum has never been indexed extremely well, and I currently have it in the folder /forum.

What I am thinking of doing is renaming the folder to /nfl as it is a fantasy football website.

Waiting to be reindexed is not a major concern for me, as most of my traffic comes in from the main entrance of the site, and i can 301 the individual forum url's.

Thoughts on this?

I would not recommend this, I am pretty sure that you would loose traffic and SE rankings.

Search engines dont like that kind of changes.
