Link Popularity Check reported that www.suzuki-bikes.com has only 65 inbound links - and yet it is PR6.
Proof that links are not worth the time spent on exchanging them?
And also not in Yahoo Directory - looks like Yahoo is not necessary either?
Or have I got it all wrong?

Links are everything. That site used to have a couple hundred links from my forum signature on the old webmaster forums.
It lost those links, but it still stays up there because of some other nicely placed links.

Hi Scott,
<<<<<<
Links are everything.
<<<<<
Thanks for confirming that. Or rather thanks for confirming my worst fears!
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
That site used to have a couple hundred links from my forum signature on the old webmaster forums.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Are you saying that each signature posted at a forum counts as an inbound link? So if you have a 1,000 postings you got a 1,000 links? Sounds too easy! I think I;ve got it wrong again.
Also, I noticed that your signature has your url underneath your keywords ... is there an advantage in doing it that way?

Also,
<<<<
.........a couple hundred links from my forum signature on the old webmaster forums. It lost those links............
<<<<<<<<
How did you lose a couple of hundred links?
I asked because last week when I checked a site of mine ... it reported a drop of 20 odd links - which in my case is like 30%. And I still have no idea how it happened!
These were previously reported by LinkPopularityCheck as hotbot/google and hotbot/inktomi links ..... the alltheweb links are still showing up.

You've got it right. Those links count.

That is using link text to increase ranking for specific keywords. Link text is very important.

Forgive me for being a total newbie. But are you saying that forum signature links can be read by Google as links (votes) to my page and so the more I post/reply, the more votes I'll get?

Forgive me for being an idiot too. I obviously don't know how to get the signature box to read html.
Thanks for the help, Jazzee!

Yes, links from this forum count as votes.

How long does Google take to show links to your pages? For the ministry they only show one while the link is on many other sites.
We also get much more traffic from Yahoo and other search engines.
Here's a few sites with GREAT stats and NO Google ranking,
http://www.humorspain.com/promo.htm
http://www.smashingthumbs.com/enter.html
I found those on netstatsbasic, somehow a google ranking isn't really accurate about your popularity with your visitors.

Maybe people themselves are optimised for Sex and Fun, some guy submitted this in people long time ago and made sure that people search for this even when it cannot be found in the obvious place.
