Do forum links/signature hurt a site?

Do forum links/signature hurt a site?I searched for previous posts in this forum, but I didn't get a conclusion. What is your opinion? My question is not related to number of spamy signature links in various forums, its about one or two signature links?

Hi,
I think it depends upon how you are using your signature. Don’t use only keyword in signature, it should be look organic then it will be not affect ranking of site.

It depends how you have used that signature. Most of the people in the signature just mentioned only keywords, keywords and keywords. Which is bad. Its intentional. It should be organic.

Also where as other website are concern... most people mentioned as a footprint designed by ABCFG. for obtaining more number of backlinks they just mentioned the same thing on each and every page of a website. which is again look weard. I will recommend instead of putting the same thing on each and every page one should mentioned only on the home page.

Why should it hurt the site? But use the organic signature, but not the only keyword, for example. And it should work for the better then.

The answer can be found in Google Webmaster Guidelines.

https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/66356?hl=en

Forum links can hurt your site if you are just going to post nonsense replies with tons of exact match keyword in your signature.

Who cares? if you're getting targeted traffic and conversion, then you're a good to go with that.

Exactly. Google has now made everyone fearful about adding links. Ask yourself. Am I putting this link here to get traffic or to increase my chances with the SERPS. If it is the latter, it may be spammy.

You have to think relevancy. If you are in a webmaster forum like this one, you would expect most links to be to webmaster services and resources.

No, not at all. However, best option is to get backlinks from sites like your own site

I've read it somewhere that it will hurt since this will make too much backlinks from one site. is this true?

I tend to use naked domains, or branded anchor text in signatures.

Huh....... Forums i think is the best part of SEO.They provide you with an everlasting back links that no body does. And, I don't think it is going to hurt you in any ways except if go for spammy work like stuffing signature with keywords and provide nonsense posts and answers just for back link.

Not only that, it gives you a chance to build relationships and authority (if you make good posts), so that in time you may get great link opportunities \ referenced away from the forum as well.

It doesn't hurt your site but it reduces the trust follow of your site. Its just like you are getting many recommendations for your site from a single site. This can be overcome by being active on many forums. This won't affect your trust follow more and you will get bulk of backlinks from more number of sites. But don't do it just for getting backlinks. quality of content and relevancy are also equally important. Moderators please correct me if I am wrong.

Forums are beneficial in my opinion.

As long as you are in a forum that is relevant to your site then you will hopefully be getting targeted traffic.

It doesn't hurt your website, as long as you're planning to really participate in that forum's activity. If you're posting on forums only for the sake of link building, eventually... you will seem spammy and either your account will get banned, or you will break some Google guidelines.

That's a personal opinion, not a rule! Hope you appreciate it.
