Search Engines and their non SEO friendly urls

hey folks

i was just doin some thinking and was wondering what you all think: why do places like MSN, yahoo etc not use search engine friendly URLs? their URLs suck & they know the algo!

How do you think their URL's aren't friendly? Yahoo seems to have a lot of SE friendly URL's.

MSN is crap, because they can't help it.

ok yea, yahoo seems to do an alright job, but MSN - WtF?

I guess it is because they drive their traffic to their sites using other means than their competitors

URL's with variables in e.g. ?industry=marketing&job=web-marketing

are actually not all that bad. Obviously if you rewrite the URL's its a lot tidier and easier for SE's to index though. I actually like url's with variables in, they appeal to me more than rewritten urls/

Why is that?

So you can read the URL and find other hidden pages heh

Something like that, in all honesty I am so used to them that I remember them easier than nice folder organised rewritten urls.
