Keeping track of links

A big part of SEO is link building. How do you keep track of all the links? How do you make sure that you aren't submitting the same domain to the same web directories? Is there a firefox toolbar that can help with this.

I use a spreadsheet to track my link building efforts. Plus with directories you can just search for your site and see.

Web directories are not unlimited. There are just a few hundred web directories at present and you can easily keep track of your submissions using a text file.

Here's what I would like. Every time I get a link from a domain I could just click on a button in firefox and firefox would keep track of it. If I go back to that domain, it would give me some sort of visual feedback that I already have a link from that domain. This seems like something that wouldn't be hard to program, but would be very useful. Has anyone written anything like that?

Here is a program that helps you keep track of directories that you submitted to.

For directories, take a look at this form filler extension for Firefox. It includes directory management where you can mark off the sites submitted to all the directories.

If you're also looking for something to track advertising and reciprocal links, take a look at this link checker software.

The form filler looks very promising. I'm not sure I'm ready to shell out the $150. Can it be used to keep track of other types of link building? e.g. article directories, press releases, etc.

Yes, it can. You can setup profiles for any type of content and add any kind of sites.

I agree they are not unlimited, but I think there are more like a few thousand rather than a few hundred directories out there.
