I do not feel that W3C compliant HTML gets additional weight in the SERPS.

However, if your code is not W3C compliant, it may have difficulty displaying properly on some browsers. You won't get inbound links from webmasters using those browsers and that will eventually hurt you in the SERPS.

I believe that HTML validation does not have direct impact on SERP but Google has also advised webmasters to do correct coding:

Semantically correct HTML (with proper headings, subheadings, lists, properly emphasized text and such) is given slightly more weight. Semantic HTML doesnt make HTML valid, but its a start in the right direction.

Yeah, semantic HTML is more user-friendly too.

matt cutts spoke just recently about this. It's estimated 40% of all indexed webpages are not html valid. The weight it carries is so small it's mute. w3c validation should be the last thing you worry about when developing a website.

Look at Googles homepage Its a mess...

Good code does have a small bearing but I do mean small, not because it looks pretty or doesnt have errors but because if your site is extremely popular it can make the difference on page load times.
