1 way ibl vs reciprocal

All the time i hear people say that a one way link is more valuable then a reciprocal link. does anyone have an example or data to back this claim up?? or is it just another part of SEO that is left to speculation.

The websites that I manage, that don't link out at all - rank better than the websites I manage that do trade reciprocal links.

but could that be a difference in quality of the links to that site? and are you targeting the same keyword for both types of sites?

Unproven.

Agreed, that there is likely to be a more logical explanation.

Why trade when one ways are easy to get? If you run Aaron Wall's backlink tool for competitive keywords you will see that the sites that are doing well are mostly one ways.

It's quite clear that one way links are better than the reciprocal ones. Suppose each link is regarded as a positive vote, while being one way it will have ++ effects and while being reciprocal, it can be + or zero or sometimes even -

bermuda, do you have any proof to back up your statement? that is really what i was looking for in posting this thread. people continually say statements like that, and for a long time i did to, but unless it is proven it is still an assumption!

Does anyone actually have any way of demonstrating that one ways are more effective then reciprocals?

Lots of people have now come to agree that 1 way is better.. Proof, quite scarce.
IMHO, it's more important that the link comes from a content related page.
