Submitting your already indexed content to article directories

Hi there,
I was just wondering what you guys felt on this situation?

Do those of you who submit articles to article directories/repositories write exclusively for the directories/repositories or do you publish the articles on your own site first, wait for search engines to index your article and THEN submit to the repositories?

Assuming you are indexed first and wait a while and then submit, will you be subject to any penalties in search engines?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Better submit to article directory first.

Repeating submission one or two times will not get penalty from search engines.

i'd rather not have articles that i have on my site be submitted to article directories... not willing to take the risk of duplicate content penalty...

Since you own the article you can change it some and then add it to your site. No dup content and all is well.

Well I write the article, I distribute it and then I add it on my site.

How much changes do you guys do? Grammar and stuff only right?
I mean for the duplicate article.

Well I dont do any changes at all I just publish the same article.

Do the articles on your site show up as dup content when run through a dup content cehck?

Are the pages that have the duplicate articles in the gg suplemental index?

Yes ofcourse, they will show it as duplicate as I am also publishing the same article but dont worry too much about it, it wont get me penalized.
