What I feel that signature link do have importance however doesn't effect your SEO work. Because most of the time Signature link from forum do not counted by searchg engines. Also NOFOLLOW is another factor to consider.

A regular member of any forum who posts consistently can create an identity for him or her. Sometimes people love to listen from them. That creates a good image for your site. Your spread of knowledge will attract people to see your site. That can help in viral marketing. May be first six month you may not get any positive results, but once you will start gaining positive response it will generate cumulative results giving you immense traffic.

If you are a new member you can ask questions to experts giving your site link as your signature link. Experts will definitely review it. At least once.

So dear forget about gaining back links, seo for a while and think about your visitors that how you can make them satisfied and use forum as a global platform for indirect marketing.

Well one thing I agree that many forums use no follows but not this forum and also remember that if you cant see the links it doesn't mean that it hasn't been counted, although it also drives traffic.

Just want to say that Bernard is right about sig links not doing a lot for seo. Yes a link is a link, but not all are equal. In general as you have more links on the same site the less each one is going to be weighted in a search algorithm. That doesn't mean they don't count as links, but I doubt most links in forums sigs beyond the first few really do much at all.

Ideally you want links from different sites. The idea behind a link is it's a vote for your site. How many votes should a site get? Certainly not several thousand.

Links though do lead to people clicking on them. If you have a sig link and also write some useful posts people will be come interested in you and click on those links. Not every link needs to be in place for a search engine.

In fact if you think more about links for the sake of the link itself and whether or not people will click on it you'll find you'll get more targeted traffic and it will probably end up helping in search engines too.

Just would like to point out that Google can, indeed, detect similarly formatted links and discount them as artificially placed. Not to mention a lot of links from a single domain with the same anchor text to the same page do look suspicious.

In turn, links from within the context (the posts), are uniquely formatted and are harder to discount.
