Do You Have the Patience to Let SEO Work for You?

There seems to be 2 camps when it comes to SEO and the long term investment in getting your site in the SERPs and staying there.

Camp 1
PPC, spamming (all kinds of this) and paid advertising. While these methods might get you some quick results keeping it up would have to be a long term expense. Of course, spamming in any form is just a waste of time and money IMHO.

Camp 2
Slow and steady. Slowly work on your site, improving on-site SEO first to get ranked naturally in the SERPs then spend time on quality content that readers will help promote for you by spreading the word. Supplement these first actions with some networking on and off line.

So which camp do you plan on being in 2016? Explain why, in detail. Back up your reply with some creditable resources (for either camp) to convince us your plan is going to work.
(no why and your reply will be removed)

Since there is only one that works long term I plan to remain in Camp 2.

Detail?

We get at least 100 posts per week here looking for a magic bullet. 15 years ago I may have been one of those people for a short period of time. Then I learned that the tortoise really does win or at least show in this race.

Do I have a #1 site? No where near it. It probably never will be. But when I have the time to regularly add content it does fairly well.

I agree. No shortcuts.

and so does Aristotle, the great philosopher:

“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives - choice, not chance, determines your destiny.”

A timely article from Website Magazine:
Quote:
...As any seasoned SEO professional can attest, eagerness coupled with impatience rarely results in a characteristic that is in demand from clients. If an enterprise is new to the practice of search engine optimization, has had a poor experience in the past or is simply looking to do more with the resources it currently has, the secret is to be informed about the current market forces, employ the best practices and be patient. SEO is a long-term initiative and as such should be rooted in long-term goals.

Trying to achieve its benefits over night is simply impossible so brands must think of the practice as less of a task and more as a habit. There are certainly elements that are task based, but optimization is active, meaning that it requires constant attention and effort to maintain its effectiveness. What is so appealing about the practice, however, is that it can reap significant rewards over the long term...but again, only if teams approach it with patience and commitment....

Camp 2.

The whole secret to improving your Google rankings is to understand your market (target audience), research and identify the long-tail keywords they are searching with and then create in-depth, useful, interesting and actionable content that will meet their needs. Then promote that content massively. Do this consistently for best results.

As long as you understand the “intent” of your audience through market research, you will dominate search engines and your content will rank well without a penalty.

I have followed Camp 2 already.

The reason may be, when you create quality content it takes time.

Targeting SMM and reach each and every knock of the platform is a herculian task.

On page SEO should be done at a regular interval.

I'm torn between the 2, but most likely Camp 2 because I currently don't have the funds to support Camp 1

Yes, I have the patience to let SEO works as it will help me in long term, if I go for spamming initially I will be no where in future.
So better to focus on content and later focus on SEO.

Camp 2 not only reaps long term benefits for rankings, but from what I noticed its forcing me to become more of an expert in my field and It makes me pay attention to my customers even more.
