Is Google The Only Search Engine That We Should Focus On?

Hello folks,
We all know that doing SEO is mean working with Google. But is that true nowadays?
There are many search engine out there, not just the old ones like Bing, Yahoo etc, but many local search engine, and fast growing search engine like DuckDuckGo. They have quite good traffic each day, and there are not so many competitors like Google. Should we put more time in these low competitive search engine to earn more traffic, or just focus on Google like the old days?
Give me your idea!

Most of the search engines follows Google's algorithm only, so if you optimize your website for Google, then your website will rank in most of the search engines.

Google is the most used search engine all across the country, and if you want to earn business you must need to focus on google first in comparison of other search engine if you are doing SEO for your business or website.

That is a load of horsepucky.

Why would we get 1st position using Google for one term, while coming in 10th, for the same term on another engine and 18th in yet another engine.

Kind of shoots that theory down.

We do it for Google as it has the largest market share.

It means Google can give us more number of visitors then any other search engine if our website rank on good position.

How can you learn and gain valuable online marketing experience if you focus on Google alone? Diversify your mind and content marketing strategies and worry more about earning and retaining readers. Be natural and unique when writing content of your own personality as if you're having a fluent conversation with another human being.

I don't care about the other search engines but I know I submit my blogs to them when I start a new one but that's about all I do for the other ones.

Google is my main focus and also once and awhile I'll try to focus on Bing for a little bit. Look Google is the Giant and will always be so Google should be your top focus.

Check this out: http://www.internetlivestats.com/goo...ch-statistics/

People at work or my friends always say "Just Google It" when someone needs to know more about something or even a historical fact...etc

Google is implanted in everyones brains so you make the call if you should focus a lot on Google or not.

I would say just focus on Google, but don't forget to submit your site on all other search engines.

i've not put any work into other search engines other than google. my sites show on all other search engines and perform pretty much exactly the same.

there's tons of threads and information on how google works. i rarely see info for other search engines. when there is big changes to how google works everyone talks about it. i've never heard of any changes to bing for instance. focus your energy on google, and maybe once in a blue moon double check you're performing as expected on the others

If you are just focusing on English Organic Queries, then yes, Google is the 85%-90% dominant in it, you can try baidu too for Chinese exposure if you know it.

Think of this, if you can get your website indexed into Google then I am sure the smaller search engines will eventually find your website to begin indexing it.

No no no no

No, there are many search engines like Yahoo, Bing that can be the good option with much more information as compared to Google. But, still Google is nowadays more popular than others just because of its accuracy and power search algorithm.

I don't know about you but when my friends are clueless about something. They say "I'll Google It" on my phone.

Not one of my friends said I'll "DuckDuckGo It".

That is a bit of an exaggeration.

There are those that use whatever was setup as the default on their machine. Which might be Bing or Yahoo! if their kid/grandkid forced FF as the default browser.

In regards to your question, I would say in short the answer is yes. One of the reason why is because Google does have the highest "market share" of searches in general at the moment. Most people do use Google search and it only would be logical to focus on the search engine that most people use. A no brainer there.

However, the other search engines are important as well, just not enough at this time, to be the focus. One example that should not be altogether forgotten is DuckDuckGo.
According to a recent article which is on topic:

https://moz.com/blog/seo-not-just-about-google

"DuckDuckGo had more than 108 million visits in one month, which is an increase of 22% in their total traffic". That is a lot of people searching on that lower competitive search engine. Why not try to tap into that market on that particular respective search engine especially since they typically only allow 2 ads at the top in adverse to 4 ads on Google?

Google is responsible for generating 90% of the organic traffic to leading sites which I think is a huge volume of traffic. Moreover, as Mareeswaran pointed out most of the search engines follow the Google algorithm for ranking a site so once you manage to rank your post even on the second or third page of Google search results, it will become easier for you to rank on the first page of other search engines.
