MSN became Live and i lost my positions.
I used to be in top 10 on MSN with almost all my keywords i bet, after MSN became Live, i lost all my positions and last month i had only 60 visitors.
How Live works and what their strategy?

I checked the seprs for my keywords and noticed that MSN is giving more love to keyword stuffed domain names. Mine is a branded name, and droped significantly. Every single webpage that ranked higher than mine had them ... and I also noticed that yahoo is giving more love to keyword stuffed domain names.

Are you depending on MSN for all your search traffic??
As MSN traffic accounts only for about 12% of all search traffic, why don't you optimize your site for other search engines? It is not good to put all your eggs in one basket anyway.

I see for some people it is not a big deal... Who say it just 12%? It is not just... it is 12%! Do you know how many customers it is?
I think we should watch Live and soon we will understand strategy.
Anyway, i am still on the bottom with all my words which used to be huge on MSN.

I have personally found MSN is the easiest of the major search engines to optimize for. I use them test how I'm doing with my long term SEO strategy.

I seem to be fairing quite well with Live...better than before actually. And they've accepted one of my sites for the MSN Live News search, so my stories get indexed in there. Woo hoo!

Webfinity, Can you give me some general guidlines of what MSN likes? A few pointers maybe? Google loves me.. BUT MSN dropped my love last week.. lol..
Any pointers that would head me out in the general direction would be helpful.
Julie, you too.. any general ideas??
Thanks for your input.

Since the latest major update, It's been good and bad for thousands of webmasters. I think we all should wait for some time so that the Live.com transfer gets finished completely and then concentrate on the methods to top rankings again.

Wager - I have no idea. Honestly it's just dumb luck for me most of the time. Or if I'm doing something right, well I don't know what it is and it must be something instinctive.

Thanks Julie ,
I've been looking at the serps, and noticed that for my keywords most of the top 30 were keyword stuffed domains. There were no "branded" domains without keyword. I'll just keep making content with my eye on the ball..

Some webmaster told me that Live just launched and they use old MSN algorithm for now, That's why all new websites dropped and onl sites still on top. It should be fixed soon.

More local than ever
As I see it, Live is even more local than MSN Search was.
Im in Sweden, and when I log into Live.com I get it in a very Swedish flavour, favouring sites close to my physical location.
After clearing cookies (and to some extent by clicking options) I can force live.com into a performing differently. But when I ask for French (fron France) results, that's what I get. And the results differ greatly.
Now, the algo for presenting these results seems to be based both on the physical location of the server, the language set for the site, and to some extent also the physical location of the sites linking in to your site. That doesn't differ much from the MSN Search results. The big difference seems to be the way Live.com decides what default flavour you'll get when going there in the first place.
