Have You Suffered From Negative SEO?

I had a site that once suffered from a SPAM links campaign. Russian porn links ruined my rankings and it took my site down. What I learnt from the experience was to track my back links profile daily so i could look for signs of malicious activity.

This post https://ahrefs.com/blog/negative-seo/ is a must read even if you have no suspicion of a negative seo attack.

Thoughts?

I recently did a penalty recovery for the client who got it for low quality links.

He wasn't even aware there was negative SEO for his site. He asked how we know it was negative SEO and after we showed him some of the anchor text keywords (something similar to what you mentioned) he was in shock.

So I agree with you - keeping track of backlinks should be one of the daily routines and if anything suspicious shows up you should act immediately.

Yes I had. At once my website was penalized as I was making so much of back-link throughout a day and was making submissions in bulk. The rank was fallen and it could not raised again.

Yup - happened to us a few years ago. It was an accidental Google issue, and our site pages weren't only ones that suffered the wrath of Google's incompetence.

Somehow, their link database purged about 90% of our links. Our ranking tanked - I'm talking not in the top ten pages! It took over a month before they re-crawled the internet finding those backlinks once again, updating their link database and our rankings reappeared.

We didn't even get an "oops! We're sorry."

So whoever believes links are not important, are talking out the sides of their mouths.

I published a blog post on my site the other day. Within 6 hours it was searchable on google on somebody else's site!!! They had given me a do follow back link though??? But, obviously, I could be seen as the one that copied their site!

I emailed them and said thanks for the link but maybe next time don't just cut n paste the whole piece. They have rewritten it and tweaked the titles but I still have the link. :-)

If I hadn't learnt from past experiences I wouldn't have been checking daily and it could have ended very differently.

Even once I had faced the same problem with my website, it was attacked by the Chinese so first, what I had done I have removed all the bad link from my website with the help of the disavowing tool. Later on, I have replaced all the content with the new content, after that, I had emailed the Google for the re-inclusion my website. At last my website it was removed by the Google from the penalized list.

Not me..Many blogging friends passed through this situation. They were ranking for many profitable keywords and someone started making bad links to their blogs. I was not possible to identify the evil soul. However, we should keep analysing the backlinks profile once in a week that can save us from big threat.

If you kept hide the backlinks from backlinks tools then see the links into webmaster tool/console.

yes many time yours ranking goes down becuase of some spam and bad backlinks. I had faced the same problem with my website. Due to some low quality links i lost my organic traffic . So , never make a spam backlinks and keep tracking your backlinks in webmaster or ahrefs and if you find any bad links then take a action and disavow those links in webmaster.

So it was the client who was responsible for the links, or was it out of his hands and done by someone else trying to hit the site with bad links?

This was something you did - the OP is looking for something that was done by a third party to affect a site.

Again, this is something you did. The OP is looking for stories where the site owner was not at fault.

While this isn't really a "negative SEO" instance, it was something that was not done by us and was facilitated by another source - Google.

There are sites offering 50k spam links in an hour for $10.

It's disgusting to think how immoral some people really are. Just to imagine how someone can so easily destroy somebodies livelihood is sickening. I understand that the Penguin 4.0 is supposedly ignoring 'low quality' links, but nevertheless I'm sure sites get destroyed sometimes...for $10.

Keep an eye on your back links daily.

Upon noticing something that looks dodgy you need to look into it and deal with it. If that means disavowing 1000's of links then so be it.

As for preventing it, no, there isn't a measure you can take.

This thread isn't about the spammy things you, as a site owner may have done. It's about forces beyond what you do, that make your site rankings tank.

The thread topic isn't about self-inflicted SEO issues.

Your negative SEO issue was something that you did to your site.

And no, you didn't' explain how to prevent negative SEO. Anyone at any time can hit a site, and there's not a lot, if anything, you or anyone can do about it.

Negative SEO is any malicious attempt taken against your site in an attempt to harm your rankings

Really?? This must either be a bot, or if you are human, you didn't read any of the posts in this thread, including the OP.

(Blind posting at it's best. Where is the negative rep button when you need it. )

There seems to be a huge amount of these types of posts on forums these days, all from certain areas of the world too.
