I've got a #3 position for the keyphrase "ebay home business" in google with about 3,700,000 results. I attribute this to my reciprocal linking.

oh yeah, also had #1 spot for both "types of squirrels" and "pictures of squirrels".
A friend and I were joking around about something, and he suggested I go try to see if i can get first position on some random term not at all related to seo over on SEO world, just by writting one article. At the time seoworld was really moving and I was snagging a lot of good positions so i tried it. Had the position within 2 weeks.
I was also within the top 20 for "SEO" at one point, and in the top 10 for "SEO Forum".
Over on MSN which treated me well i had second for "SEO" first for "SEO Forum" 8th for "Search Engine" and second for "Search engine optimization" ..... msn helped me out tons needless to say

I don't know if I have ever got a #1 position for anything...w3schools usually takes that from me.
I do have first page for css padding/margin/border/background/etc just a bunch off css related terms. When I do beat out w3schools on google, I'll be a happy man.

Highest I ever got for my sunglasses site was #6 for the keyword "sunglasses". At the time I think there were like 6.1 million pages.

I had #1 for "business partners online" with no rec. links.
7,270,000 - Doesnt mean it gets any traffic either.

At the time of writing:
#1 for 'travel forum' out of 7.2 million
#1 for 'travel forums' out of 5.6 million
#6 for 'business forum' out of 10.7 million
#1 for 'business forums' out of 9.4 million
#1 for 'travel search engine' out of 5.4 million
#3 for 'uk travel' out of 8.4 million
#1 for 'uk tourism' out of 3.8 million
and #70 for 'travel' (might not seem that great, but it is out of 143 million)
...and many, many more.
(no quotes required in any of the search queries)

Yeah I was quite pleased, there are only about 10 links going to it and it didn't take much work. I am working on it though and I am hoping soon I will have about 50 links to it so I can secure further that position.
At the beginning when I started to target that term I thought I had no chance but that ranking seems to be mainly going on the title text and the fact that all links coming in have the anchor text Webmaster News.
