Got a spread of number 1's in the security and printing industries for my first set of SEO clients. I so cheered when the sandbox wore off. I was getting rather desperate to raise rankings and ended up simply sledgehammering Google in ways that I would never have dreamed of before. I've even been asked by one company to "de-optimise" their site, as they couldn't keep up with the orders! LOL!! For those who can keep up, I'm now about to go for single keywords.

But English class is less competitive (and means less traffic) than "ESL"

I bet that's not something you hear everyday in SEO!
Try
color printing over 6 million
or
colour printing about 1,600,000
It helps that the Americans can't spell!

HAH ... looks like Google now has me #1 out of 11,700,000 for Car Stories ... this one kinda snuck up on me - not something I was "trying" for - based on the Analog report, it doesn't appear this term is actually searched that often as I don't get that many referrals.
alek

I never even bothered to look this up in DP's tool, but thanx samer for the reminder/link - yea, I should change it to "car crash" or "car sex" ;-)
BTW, I just looked up "car stories" in my May/2004 monthly Analog report and I got a whopping total of 71 referrals ... for the entire month ... so not exactly a lotta traffic for the #1 term out of 11,500,000. I'll be the first to admit it's mostly a novelty and obviousely not a very competitive keyphrase.
alek
P.S. Despite being the "car stories" site, I'm still #2 in Google (out of 113!) for Hulkmobile ... but the #1 spot has that keyword in their domain name (it's a ring-tone site), so I'll probably never unseat 'em! ;-)

Old thread I know, but I remembered it from the summer, and just had to drag it back up for this one... Started playing around with some eBay stuff, and this is what I have so far (everything is still going up though):
#1 and #2 for ebay registration out of 1,310,000 results
#3 for ebay motor out of 5,910,000 results
#4 for ebay motors out of 5,190,000 results
#5 for e bay out of 18,000,000 results
#6 for e-bay out of 20,900,000 results
the biggie though...
#6 and #7 for ebay out of 175,000,000 results
Above ebay.ca and ebay.com.au now

Yeah, not too bad since it's only been about 5 weeks since I've been messing with it. Everything should keep going up...

Ok, here are some of my rank stats. I am very impressed with the coop network, it is what I can thank for all these ranks. 10 days ont eh network, and look at the increasing ranks.
I highly recommend it. Only 10 days and my ranks have increased like crazy.
