Rankings dissapered

Hi there,

For last three days now, the rankings at one of my sites has dropped from Google. I have problem with figuring it out. Have you noticed the same thing?

Some other pages are still indexed and coming out on top.

But some other again have lost the rankings and completely dissapered from Google.

The domain is from 2004. But the new layout and content is only 2 weeks old. The funny thing is that the site was nr 2 for three days for the search term, but then it's gone. Have used the search term and domain name, but are not able to find it.

And now I also noticed a funny thing. When searching for my site in google, it only showed the domain name, and no text.

Well just have to wait a little bit. Not using any Black Hat, so not that worried.

I figured it out.

The reason for sudden drop was, as I see it: That i had used keyword in my url.

example: www.yoursite.com/keyword now I have changed it to: www.yoursite.com/news/keyword and everything works fine, and rankings are back again.

Well that was not a problem at all coz it was a temporarily drop and its a co-incindense that its back at the same time.

I think that 301 redirects could have helped. Don't forget that if you rearrange large sites.

Anghus, did you return to the original variant of your url?

well 301 redirects have nothing to do with rankings.

If SE doesn't find the URL it was looking for it drops it from index and spiders "new" pages. If SE just finds redirect to a new place, probably the rankings would remain the same.

well the pages will be dropped thats correct but if you put the redirects then also the rankings will disappear coz the page that had links and was ranking is gone.

Why gone? 301 means - moved. 301 redirect helps to move whole domains (with their rankings) so, why it can't help move particular pages?

Well you may try it, even if you put 301 redirects the rank will drop.

Why? If the old page was ranking well and visitors drop there - they are automatically redirected with 301. It takes some time for SEs to realize that the page was moved. But then visitors start coming to a new url.
