https://www.domain or https://domain

Hi all,

Hope you will shed some light on this for me.

You know when you copy and paste the link it can appear with www or without.

Why is that? What is the difference? Which is better? And how can I choose that?

Thanks!

You have to pick which version of your url you want to use.

301 permanent redirect the unused version to the used version.

If you don't do this then you create a duplicate content issue for yourself.

If you have already got some incoming links then use the most popular version.

No links yet? Then it doesn't really matter which version you choose but make sure all your internal links (i.e. navigation and links within your text) link to the version you decided to use.

I am in favor of no www is easier for the users, and less letters to put in Ads and other forms of publicity.
And just have a redirect from the www to the without.

Let me make it clear !

--> example(dot)com is a normal domain name.
--> anything(dot)example(dot)com is a subdmain of the real domain name.
--> WWW is also a subdomain but few people use it and few don't.
--> Just like crm(dot)example(dot)com, manage(dot)example(dot)com , www(dot)example(dot)com is also a subdomain.

People use www just to have a proper control over DNS. OR you may say people just use it as everyone is using it !

You can host a different website on example(dot)com and a different one on www(dot)example(dot)com.

Correct me if i am wrong !

nothing about www without www version
some owners might think domain name is very lengthy
simply they host on non-www version
No Ranking effects here.

Its completely upto you, whether you want to use your website as https://www or only as https://. But make sure to redirect any one domain to other, as for Google both these sites are different so their will be duplicate content issue.

If you don't redirect their will be difference in the data of Analytic and Webmaster.

url with no www is called root domain or another name is naked url. www is sub-domain and link with www is complete url. Ideally, naked url should have a 301 redirect to the complete url to avoid duplicate content issue.

there is no big difference in sites appearing with or without www. When you copy and paste them, http or https prefix will be visible to you.

the main difference between copy paste of site's address is if they are secured with https, it will show up when you paste the url, so is for http addresses.

Every webpage redirect to with www redirection. Without www redirection some issue is occurred, i.e, called canonical issue.

Individual webpage can be loaded from multiple URL's. Multiple pages have same content but different URL's. At that time google confused which is the genuine url, that's the reason resolve canonical issue.
