Most of the community site profile backlinks are "nofollow" - so they carry no value in terms of SEO improvements.

Spamming your profile will get you banned. At least here it will.

No such thing as SEO Profile backlinks. Real SEOers don't spam websites and certainly don't create profiles on sites in hopes of increased rankings.

Backlinks are part of MARKETING, NOT SEO! You should be getting natural backlinks and not waste your time building them.

Anyways.... If you want to spam up the net and ruin your reputation and your sites reputation then by all means go right ahead and do it.

You need to check for "rel=nofollow". If it exists then it would not pass any link juice to your site. The rest will pass on some link authority.

Check all community websites relevant to the content you will be offering on your website. Open a few profiles on each site and see if those profile has option to add links to your site. Contribute to the particular site and its readers by serving the purpose for which the particular community site is formed. If you r contribution is real, you will gain followers and you may get to connect with your target audience. If the only intention is to do link building, then also it is ok untill you violate any policy of the site.

If you choose high authority profile creation sites they might give a positive result for your website.

IT's not the quantity it's the quantity that matters. Don't go for those no-follow profile links

Take sometime and manually build backlinks

Nothing beats the feeling you get manually building each backlink with the risk of getting banned from forums.
I repeat

So, If I get your drift, there's a certain exciting thrill about living on the edge of being banned, or not??

Almost profile backlinks are no follow, so there is no benefit in the term of SEO.
