Different between HTML Sitemap and XML Sitemap ?

I submit the sitemap but after testing from the webmaster it shows that the sitemap is HTML even though I submitted the XML sitemap. So, can you describe the difference between them ?

XML sitemap is specially designed for the search engines as it is submitted to the webmaster tools for crawling the website.
HTML sitemap is designed for humans as they can clearly see it on the website.

The HTML sitemap is mostly used by users and should be presented in such a way users can find it useful naviagting the website.

XML sitemaps are mostly used by search engines to find pages on your site on top of crawling pages. XML Files can also be styled as well.

1. XML sitemap is designed for Search Engines, by submitting XML sitemap you are give information to search engines all links of website is listed in one place.

2. HTML sitemap nothing but you are navigate users from single place to complete your website

Same as the comment above, but you just can use XML sitemap for both: User & SE. You can't use HTML sitemap for SE

False!

A HTML site map (note the different spelling) can be used by both humans and search bots unlike an XML sitemap (note the spelling) which is meant for bots that understand the Sitemap protocol.

FYI: None of my sites use an XML Sitemap and they are indexed just fine.
Back to the OP's original questions:
Difference between a site map and an XML Sitemap:
Quote:
...Sitemaps are XML files. They are meant for search bots and computer programs that understand the Sitemaps protocol (standard). Not all bots that roam the net understand the Sitemaps protocol. The 3 big players in the search industry do, Google, Bing and Yahoo! along with some others.

A site map on the other hand is a regular web page that humans, assistive technology and all search bots can read. It uses regular (X)HTML coding to present the information...
Should I Create a Sitemap or HTML Site Map?

If you are using Wordpress and W3 Total Cache plugin, apparently you might have a setting wrong in the W3 Total Cache plugin:
Quote:
...You’re using W3 Total Cache and you’ve ticked the setting to hide the sitemap from normal visitors...

The difference is simple HTML sitemap is for a human to provide them an easy navigation to understand your site structure. It is not required if you designed your site well and navigation of your website is easy for users to operate your website.
The XML sitemap is for the SE spiders or crawlers to easily understand the website structure I mean which page is linking to other and how.
XML sitemap makes it easy for crawlers to crawl each link of the websites.
If you do not use the sitemap on your website then there is no issue because Google is smart enough to find the fresh and unique content but if you have one so it would be good practice. But for large website, I recommend using a sitemap.
