I think they do....after a time some forum posts gain high pr.

I think it can just help a little bit, but not too much. Use a backlink tool to check your backlinks, and go to the link list, and you will find that the links from forums are not too much.

good day imgtube... well, posting in forums helps a lot especially when you're using a signature and u want to index ur page..and it easy to gain a PR when ur site has been page/has always been indexed... coz the crawlers are usually in forums and also blogs...

crawlers love to be in forums and even blogs and so by having signatures and postings in forums it can really help your site

Not all forums pass PageRank through links in signatures. I wouldn't expect much of it from those that do, also.

I checked and few of my old backlinks. Most in forums yeilded 0PR, but one post which was an announcement of the Mambo/Joomla CMS downfall now yeilds a 4PR. The topic is locked and I feel pretty lucky to have my forum sig in that post!

Whether it helps gain PR or not, it is a good way to get the link for your website out there into the world. Forum sigs are one of my favorite things for promotional purposes.

Any inbound link crawled by Google will pass PR.
You don't have to worry about whether the topic is related or whether the posts are meaningful, unless you are talking about SERPs.

I agree with dreamsubmitting he/she is absolutely right.When you post useful thread you will get more posts(fresh content) and your thread will be in the section index for long time(high page rank).

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure that the SEO value of a good anchor text link and PR are the same. From what I've seen... there seems to be a formula out there that takes a site's PR and divides it by the outgoing links... meaning PR6/25,000 links = very little PR for posting in a forum...

However, I think the anchor text link holds more value for SEO purposes in a forum. Especially if the anchor text is relative. So posting in the blogging forum and having an anchor text sig that says "Blog of blogs" or something might carry more weight.

all in all that's more valuable than PR unless you plan to pimp your PR for text links elsewhere. which I believe is against TOS...
