I would think that having other sites link to you would be a very good thing. Isn't that the point of link building? Though, I suppose, if it is some really bad, low PR site.... Hmm....

Google will never punish natural links. Those random links are a good thing.

I don't think that's true. I see a lot of bloggers with all the same people on their blogrolls. It's called community, and it's natural.
That said, I'll bet your probably better off with 20 sites that all link to each than you are having 20 reciprocal links to sites that do not link to each other.

why did you said that reciprocal link hurts??
One-way links will not hurt you...reciprocal links will not hurt you as long as the site your linking to wasn't banned or bad site...link with relevant, quality, and trusted sites...

When you sat excessive reciprocal linking hurts, do you mean for actual search rankings or does it hurt PR?

I believe that links will never hurt you.
But whether it will have more of an impact.

You should be fine - all inbound is bonus...
Your focus should be back on getting quality content related sites giving you
luv.
2 or 3 killer site links are better than 100 lamo sites.
I have no authority to say this, but power is key!

Google is looking for "Natural" linking - and remember it's always changing it's mind on what natural actually means. You will naturally collect some rubbish one way links, and that's fine - it's a good thing.
But if you have 100 gazillion rubbish links, and no good links, then it will probably hurt you because it's not natural. 100 gazillion rubbish links is fine if you have 200 gazillion good links.
The correct approach is to vary your link strategy - don't just do recips, or free directories, or comment spam, or high PR paid links. Links from a variety of sources, good and bad, is most natural.
And vary your link text too. Make sure you have a decent amount of "click here" or "more information" link text as well as targeted link text, because this is natural looking.
Make sure you don't build links too quick - that's not natural either. Link building should be an ongoing process, not something you spend a week on once a year.
