Is WordTracker Overrated?

If you're too lazy to read the rest of this post, here it is in a nutshell: WordTracker's results suck. Is their a better tool?

I took a look at the WordTracker top searches today for my keywords. From what I understand, it's supposed to be a 3-month rolling database. They had many of the same phrases listed as they did 3 months ago and 3 months before that.

The problem is, a significant number of the phrases are very narrow in scope and the numbers are out of proportion with how common they should be. I've never seen those phrases in my logs (even though I've specifically targeted them on a few pages) and I've never seen them in the Google or Overture keyword tools.

Any recommendations for alternates (besides Google and Overture)?

Wow you've got to be the first person that says wordtracker sucks. But you can try nichebot.

Thank You

OK, maybe I should refine my statement. Wordtracker's results suck **for my key phrases**. I seriously wonder whether the database is really rolling or if someone is gaming the system.

I've tried Nichebot, but (1) they've changed it lately and (2) they used Wordtracker and Overture's results anyway.

Doesn't anyone think there's a void to be filled? The WordTracker guys must be making money hand over fist, and yet I don't know of any major competitors. I'm surprised no one else has stepped into that space.

To answer my own question about alternates, here are two that I've found in case anyone else is interested:

The WordZe tool comes highly recommended from someone I trust. I don't know much about the other one.

I sometimes wish I had started in this game 10 years ago... So I could have my own well-visited search-engine giving me lots of data to mine :-)

Send a message via MSN to Vern
Thomas, hands up I agree with you!

However, I'm sticking with WordTracker and Overture to make
a fairly good judgement. Cheers!

Heads up guys here comes a fairly new tool to this webmaster community: Blogpulse. And no I am in no way affiliated with them .But I searched around after reading this thread for more options during keyword research. And I feel on this as well as technorati's tool.

Thank You

I did a post a few days ago about keyword tools that you may find useful. The list of 5 have already been mentioned here for the most part - I think you'll like the adCenter/adLabs stuff that MS has been working on.
