John's blog post on internal link weight

I was reading the article on internal link weight found here:

I don't fully understand what I need to do to make use of this strategy. I understand that pages like TOS, FAQ, about us, etc. should be given a lower internal linking weight than the main page, articles/content, or signup/ordering page.

How do I go about doing this? What sort of javascript or other methods are used to stop these pages from having internal lnking weight from SE's? If I use some type of javascript to link, won't the bots fail to crawl those links?

What i do is put the disclamair and all that crap in plain text in the said bar, so i don't have to use nothing like java or anything like that.

Well if you read the blog post that's what you shouldn't do.

What? He never said nothing about not doing that.I put it in plain text so it won't be a link.

I'm talking about changing the weight for important links vs. unimportant links on a web page to increase rankings in SEs

Also, that's a lot of negatives in one sentence!

Ah this got me thinking...

Does this mean that your internal site links (like from page-to-page within your own site, not linking outside your site) can have a negative effect on the weight of the links on that page? Sorry, just trying to grasp this, because this means that my huge sidenav with all the category links is a bad idea?
