What exactly do you mean? "multi-brand"? You suggest they are going to buy other companies and own the brands? They already do, but that doesn't change the "GOOGLE" brand. And btw, "multi-brand" would probably confuse the users.
Google's success is based on simplicity. I doubt Google will adopt a different branding strategy. They'd probably need to power up the marketing strategies, but that's a different story.

I say you better keep working on links because this will be the main factor for a long long time.

But you certainly know that all changes are focused first on increasing revenue for the companies starting them. So what are the other good things we (as web users) should expect?
More competition to Google.

I think links will always be taken into account. Because it is basically a semantic Internet. Webmasters are defining wether to likn or not. Thus human factor is involved. I wrote about this in one of my blog posts.

A merger with AOL and Yahoo will bring me great joy especially if I can get better cost per click rates. This new SE company/venture should focus on pushing Google from the top spot by trying to win over the medium size advertisers.

Don't get me wrong, I truely like google. But the advertising costs and the uneasiness of loosing page ranking position every time they change their algorithm is ticking me off to say the least.

Peace

Well, that's the beauty of Google: always a challenge. I love it, really!
