When to Submit to Search Engines?

Hi,

I am currently developing the contents of a site. I though I need to gain some SEO knowledge before I create the contents, though, so I would know where to place the keywords, etc.

So, today I read an e-book about SEO. There's a thing about search engine submission that bothers me:

when should I submit my site to search engines (let's say the big ol' Google)?

The e-book suggests that I submit it as soon as I get my domain, even though there's no content in it yet. The reason is that submission to Google takes a lot of time, since new sites will be put to 'sandbox' first to ensure that the site isn't a site that will be gone inactive in short time.

What do you think about this?

Any help or comments will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Exactly...you should summit your site to the SE as soon as possible if you wanna get your site indexed by SE quickly
forget about contents once SE spiders crawl in your site, they will keep visiting your site periodically to check if there is any change in your site or not.

I totally disagree, you shouldn't submit your website until is done.
If by any means the googlebot visits your site and there's nothing there, be sure that you'll stay in the sandbox for a bit longer.

Any good SEO book or professional advise to do things in this order:

1 - Research and Select Keywords (Define Your Niche and Audience, Research Keywords, etc)

2 - Select your domain

3 - Design and Tune Your Pages (SEO design parameters: Keyword Prominence, Keyword Weight, Keyword Frequency, Keyword Proximity; clean html designs)

4 - Optimize Site Structure (Build Site Architecture; create meta tags, robots.txt, and Search Engines Friendly Site Map)

5 - Submit to search engines and directories

6 - Monitor your results

7 - Repeat some of the steps to get better results

I hope this helps

^^ Guy knows what he's talking about. Either way you really shouldn't have to submit to search engines they should find your website by themselves through links.

Thank you

Yes it is more important to submit to directories than SE as a directory submission gives you a back link.

It shouldnt be necessary to submit your site to the search engines. If you really want it to get indexed quickly, get some high PR links pointing to it.

You can actually penalize your site if you submit to the SEs to frequently.

if you want to submit your site do so when it is done.. but SEs can crawl your site even without submitting it, you just have to build links.

I prefer to submit to the search engines as well. Just to make sure they know that the site is there. :-)
