Redirect 301

Hi,

Recently I had to modify my website www.b-1st.com and created new pages. I have used the command 310 redirect to direct the site to the corresponding pages. I would like to know whether using redirect 310 decreases my position in google.

Regards

Webmaster

I know you know this because your title is right, just to make sure, it's 301 not 310.

301 is the preferred way to redirect, so it's a good Google thing.

I recently read this article on the issue.

http://www.pandia.com/sew/163-301-redirect.html

Maybe this will help.

301 is safe. it will never decrease rank of your site in google.

301 is the best way to redirect. Having said that, yes you can lose rankings when you redirect using a 301.

i would like to correct myself. yes- one can lose ranking in SERPs after 301s, as john said, specially if the redirects are in ranked pages. but usually this drop is temporary and the site gets back to where it was previously (everything else remaining same, that is)

Usually, if you 301 to the same domain, for instance, 301:

domain.com/bobsyouruncle.php
to
domain.com/bobs-your-uncle.php

This kind of 301 will not lose rankings for the most part. (But sometimes they still do lose rankings - there is a hread in the private SEO forum here where one member tracked his rankings after doing a 301.)

Rankings are less certain when the 301 it from one domain to another.

internet-marketing-research.net/seo-copywriting.php
to
v7n.com/seo-copywriting.php

Domain strength isn't passed in 301.
