Exclamation Sitewide Links Hurt?

I was wondering if for example I got linked from someone's blogroll and they have hundreds of pages with different PR how do SEs treat this link. Do I get a vote for every page with PR or do they just pick the highest PR page and count that only? And if it does count every link does it look bad when only one website links to you over and over again on hundreds of web pages?

Thank You

Yes in many cases it does because it cant penalize you but puts your rankings in the waiting list because Google thinks that you might be spamming because you got too many links in just one day.

I think it also depends on how many pages your site has too.
If your site has much more pages than the other site has, then it should be fine.

Of course, I could be wrong. I am not very sure where I read that part from.

Site-wide links fine, it's just they are not as good as what they used to be, you don't get as much benefit from a ten page site-wide with PR3 on all of the pages as you would from 10 seperate sites with a PR3 page linking to you.

I hope they are not detrimental, because it is rather difficult to avoid them if someone wants to link to your site in their main navigation or something like that.

If you have a new site they can get you put into the sandbox but if you are well out of it they won't do you any harm.

You can read more about linking in Google official webmaster blog at http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/ They talked in December about the way they are looking at all types of links and more weight is being placed on natural by choice link back to sites through articles and such. I also read in one of their blogs that they are putting less weight by far to site wide links that seem unatural or for example have the exact same Anchor Text. So if you are getting a site wide link you might consider talking to the webmaster and asking if your links can have a few different Anchor Text options so that they can be different.

I don't see anywhere mentioning this. And I also kept close watch to that blog and every other google blog for my seo news blog and I never read anything like that.

Thank You

At end of the article on on "Building link based popularity"

Quote:
To sum up, even though improved algorithms have promoted a transition away from paid or exchanged links towards earned organic links, there still seems to be some confusion within the market about what the most effective link strategy is. So when taking advice from your SEO consultant, keep in mind that nowadays search engines reward sweat-of-the-brow work on content that bait natural links given by choice.
Hope that helps you. As for the site wide links one I read I will look for that one as well. The above excerpt deals with the linking by choice.

Are you sure about this? I always heard that SE's rank single pages and not sites.
