naming pages??
hello everyone
i'm starting a site with the main purpose to sell clothing.
i'm having photoshop tutorials to build links
should i name all of my pages something relevant to clothes?
for instance, should i name one of my photoshop tutorial pages mens_cloths.html, etc.
if i do do this, and google catches on, will i be penalized?
thanks you all in advance

Not at all, as a matter of fact it's encouraged. The more relevant the name of your file name to the content the better. Just remember to keep it to a minimum.
Thank you

Hello
I agree with the guy ^^^^^
What i would do though instead of using: mens_cloths.html
i would use it as: /mens_cloths/ (as its own folder)
Thats just my prefrence, but having the keywords in the url will help for seo in some if not most engines.

because from what i understand, naming files and or folders using keywords that protain to your site/what your selling, is def good for SEO.
so i was wandering if i should name all my pages/folders something related to clothes, since that is what i'm selling, (which includes naming all my non clothes releated pages somethign to do with clothes, since that is where i want my seo to come from

I do this with every site I build, only I use hyphens. I would keep it RELATIVE to the page content. You won't be penalized and it will help your rankings.

I do the same thing with my site. Each page is dedicated to a specific area or type of home in the charleston area. That way when people type in those search terms in in the SE's they show up. If I didnt name my pages that way I would not have a chance with so much compitition.

YEah use those dashes not underscores....
calisonders.com/clothing/rain-jackets.html
I've been using this file naming technique for years, but as dynamic URLS with no keywords in them continually keep ranking higher in the serps I wonder if this technique is still even worth it?
To be safe I'm going to keep naming my pages key-word.html - But I do have to admit, I wonder if its all in vain?

3rd vote for "-" and not "_"
I do not know of it still holds true. But a couple of years ago I experimented with "_" and found it did not work (in contrast to "-").

If there is a difference in using "-" or "_" its very slight if at all. I personally use "_" and "-".
Im not sure what the reasoning for using one over the other but Google for example highlights the keywords when a "_" is used just the same as "-".
here is a picture:
As you can see the keywords i searched are high lighted.
Not to mention the #1 website in the world uses underscores:
http://dir.yahoo.com/Science/Measurements_and_Units/
My vote goes with: It doesnt matter.

I will vote for hyphen.'coz google consider "-" as divider but not the "_".If you use "-",then google will consider the two words on either side of the hyphen as two keywords but if someone use then google will combine the two words on either side of the underscore. But if the URL is not related to the contents, then this doesn't matter.

Your article is good enough and interesting..
but if you search like SEO_Directory in google,Only pages that contain SEO_Directory will be displayed and if you search using SEO-Directory,you will get pages contaning SEO and Directory not only "SEO-Directory".
here,my point is that google considers the words on either side of "_" as a single word and for that of "-" as two separate words..
