as long as your images have alt tags in it, there are quality link back to your site, related links, I think there is no problem with it.

Use the footer and copyright and include a few links in there. And alot of open space on the left to display rss feed.

Yes, it's always better to have text content.
Even video sharing sites allow descriptions which can help.
