Delete useless links to increase positions.

I spend more than 6 monthes to build links using LinkMarket and Link2Me. It really helped me to target keywords and i got some nice positions.
But, i never found any good PR there. Only pr0-2. Moreover, bunch people remove your links week later to get one-way link. Couple weeks ago i really was upset because i linked more than 1000 sites from bunch partner pages. Many of them removed my links long time ago, some of them dissapeared 404, some of them became adult sites. I was trying to fix it but later i just.... deleted all links.
I understand that it was bad, because some webmasters still link me.
Anyway, when this pages was removed from Google Index, my positions jumped up!!! I was really surprised. Every keyword i target increased 2-5 positions. I was really amezed.
I don't want to say that we should all together delete partner links.... Just don't place 1000s of them on your pages. Link only partners you can trust.

I never suggest the use of link networks as there are many spammers and most of the time no PR for the link pages. Which contain hundreds of links and the links are titles which eliminates the point of a good link being in the content. I am not surprised that your ranking went up.

Also, search engines can see that link groups link you back. It create kind of community who link each other.
Today google shows that #1 similar website to my site - link2me - link exchange website i used for a long time.

link networks = high change of links coming from bad neighbourhoods = low PR. I prefer buying one-way links or three-way link exchanges myself.

As i know, according Google policy, they don't penalize websites who got backlinks from bad sites (exept link farms) because somethimes you can't control them. Your competitors also can place your links on bad sites. But as practice shows, it doesn't work and Google still punish sites for bad links.

concerning bad incoming links, your wont get punish. and basically SE will not offer credits for that links only.
* i gues same goes to outgoing links. or link exchange. worst case it the link page get PR0. hehe.

indeed i have link exchange page, and can see few traffic coming from there. i dont mind to leave it there.

Yesss You're correct. I deleted 130 links like that from my site and got my PR from 2 to 4.
