How often should we check our keyword rankings?

In the former company I worked for, we check the rankings of the sites we handle every single day. Is this a really good practice or is once a week fine? Aren't we becoming too obsessed with rankings by checking it everyday?

We check ours and our clients SERPs about 10 times a day. Google results can change on an hourly basis if you are actively promoting.

Just use googlewebmaster tools and you will get an idea of whats popular at any given time. You can see how high your results are and click a link to see the SERP.

According to me checking you site rankings once in a week is fine. But checking your site rankings every single day is a good practice to get in touch with your sites promotion actively.

every Saturday, i check both major and minor keywords rankings

It's probably good to check which keywords gets you the traffic and hence good to develop further with experience of what people look for, and what kind of input they give and more. But all this, if you don't have anything else to do, which might prove more healthy wealthy.

personally i check mine every day about 16 times, I'm not kidding. There was one time on msn, i was number 3 for website design, and website designers, but I changed something in my page, and lost it.

I have never able been able to get it back up there since, and this was when my backlinks were very weak, I had only like 400, and how that happen i have no clue, I think maybe it was algo flaw, or I did something that exploited it, I had to off.

If i knew my old site structure i would set it back up like that
