Tough World

I have been reading up on the posts on this forum for a while now. I have learned a lot from here. One thing that I have learned is that you must get links from higher ranked sites that are similar in content to your own. Well, I've tried that. I have a website that is about domestic violence. It has an online community that offers people to come and talk to others that understand about domestic violence. I have contacted the top 300 sites in Google under the search term "Domestic Violence". It seems like everyone else is more concerned about themselves instead of the common goal of helping those in domestic violence situations. I ended up doing Google Adwords for about a month and a half to try and up the exposure. It worked well. I maxed out my clicks everyday and in one month I had been seen by over 100 countries. Unfortounatly, I have had to pause the adwords and I am still in the "Sandbox" with Google. So my site is just sitting there. As a side note... I have registered with over 400 directories. Any advice you can give?

Adwords has nothing to do with your SERPs.

Anyhow, did you send them all an automated message from a link builder? Here's why I ask, I have worked with sites in a similar field and most of them are really nice.

And, don't stop your campaign at top 200, most of these types of sites are not in it for seo or marketing, (and those that are are probably in it just for money and don't care) so try finding forums and groups and exchange links and build relationships with them. You'll get lots of visitors and improve your ranks as well..

You should also find personal websites on these and exchange links with those..And, if you offer up really good infos even .edu sites will link to you.

Anyhow, for that type of site, Hit groups

Good Luck

Have patience, its going to take you years to become the name in domestic violence. Rome wasnt buit in a day is the classic saying, keep reading seo boards and keep trying to think outside the box in terms of marketing.

I'm definetly going to keep plugging away at it. This is something that means a lot to me. I don't know, I guess I'm just frustrated due to the fact that I would want to believe that these other sites would want to do ANYTHING to help save at least 1 person from domestic violence. That is just gullible I guess. I've built my business site up to a top 10 on Google and will continue to work with this one. It just gets discouraging.

How many months did you work on this? If it is not 3-6 months yet, dont get disapponted.. But also consider other niches in your expertise. Niche is very important for seo.. And it is mostly a luck if you are not in this business for years.

I have only worked on the Domestic Violence website since Mid-November. But, please don't get me wrong, I'm not disappointed with the status of my site. I'm disappointed with the mind-set on other sites that "claim" to want to help people and solve issues but won't link to anyone b/c they want all the attention. And they will not link to ANYONE... not just me.

I agree, it takes time.

It's also the case that no matter what niche you're in, there seems to be a given number of webmasters that are going to look down on your work and refuse to link or collaborate.

The good news is that there's typically far more folks out there that are open minded and interested in linking. As with anything involving marketing, at the end of the day it's a numbers game.

For me, I've figured out that for every 10 or so link request emails I send out, I'll probably get 1 success.

Knowing that gives me two choices:

1. Tweak and experiment with the message in my link request emails to see if I can go improve on 1/10.

2. Send out more link request emails.

Of course the key is to do both.

Perseverance and patience are the keys to success.
