What rates better .net, .org. com. biz, or .us domains?

IS there any different in the ranking on .net, .ca, us?

Reason I ask is becuase I'm registering multiple domains right now, and for some reason my friend has a domain register seocompany.ca which he places like 3rd on google.ca, but when going to google.com hes like 90 something, and this is for the keyword "seo".

It really depends on whether your target audience is based in Canada or the US.
Pick .ca if your audience is mostly from Canada, otherwise choose .us.
The rest are pretty much the same in terms of geo-locations.
