do outbound links hurt my ranking
curious question, do more outbound links hurt my site? Say i have 1,000 outbound links on my website, now would this hurt My ranking?
Which granted i know the more outbound links i got will give less weight to the people i have linked, but does it hurt me any?

If you have 1000 outbound links, you would need 1000 inbound links with the same weight to counter those links. So it depends mostly on the size of your site and the amount of links you have coming in. Obviously, the fewer outbound links you have, the more the pages of your site will give value to the other pages of your site. So does it hurt? I couldn't really say. But, does it help? I don't think it does.

hurt
I don't think hurts my site, but I do know it gives less credit to other sites, I don't see it draining my pr level / quality for more outbound links.

Nope, no hurting ur ranking or the PR your page possesses by virtue of inbound links, like u alreay know that it would only affect the PR strength you would pass on to the sites on ur page, BUT - u need to verify that the sites you link to do not offer spam and are not banned by the SE's....
That could get u banned or loose SERPs, unless u urself are an independent authority site
For my major linking policy, i donot link to PR0 - 9 month or older sites as i dont want to hurt my SERPs...
Now a 0 PR even after a few updates is very fishy to me

This is the only recent ones i have seen http://www.searchenginejournal.com/?p=3611
But, if you are a serious buyer you can always contact the owners of the site and they do respond, but to make it legit - send a semi formal mail and offer to discuss it via IM ( Personal Experience )

A PR 6 wont be tricky as no one can claim that the SEs have disowned directory links - remember quality is ambigiuos and very difficult to measure.
Even the wannabes are looming at a healthy PR 5 and some greater
But a PR 8 link, that a different story - defo better that any directory links

your does site will not affect. As long as your partner's page is related to your site, do not offer Spam, duplicate or anything against SE rules. it will not affect..

pr9
i looked at the pr9 site, I wonder how much credibility that would give me on my site. I tell you what if i could get my site up to a pr8, I could sale some great advertisement on the main page couldn't I, or get a directory on my site and charge like 20 dollars for a listing, and then boom i can start spending out money on other high quality pr sites :0
well contextual link ads on the main page

Question about the original topic for a second.... Why would outbound links hurt you? I mean, I get the gist that they don't, but if they did, there would be no directories and no one would want to sell advertising space on their site or anything.

low quality
A new directory like a pr0, one that has not had much exposure to the web.

For me a PR 0 wont matter, i prefer submitting to new directories and have maximum clients seeking such packages...(i explain to them why)
reason being, 1. say u submit to a PR6 dir - the approval backlog would be like 6 months ( i have a backlog of 2 months with a PR4 free directory) and unless you dont submit a PERFECT site, 99% of the time it would get rejected.
2.PR for free directories would eventually come (backlinks from mutliple free directory lists) and new directories have very fast approval.
Its better to have a PR0 for a while, then to have no backlink at all..
Quality for me would be :
1. Non spammy links in the database
2. Controlled link sales in the homepage
3. SE crawability
If i dont get these i assume the dir wont fit my needs, else all is fine

It depends on the relevance of sites you link to, if your linking to quality websites for more information about a blog post for example this shouldn't hurt too much. But if you are linking to anyone from a large links page this will affect your rankings.

It doens't matter to me if the directories has PR0 as long as I won't put reciprocal links to them. PR0 directory can also be counted as your backlinks.

I think it doesnt hurt your ranking, you need to choose quality links, related site, with higher page rank and high traffic.
