Optimizing html

Hi,

Is anyone familiar with htlm optimizers which get rid of almost all the white space in code? Will using it help with seo as the main content is closer to the top of the page?

Thanks in advance,

I think removing white spaces still has some benefit. I don't think about visible text/code ratio, but it can be effective if you do not want to show your code to your rivals. I mean it is really boring scrolling horizontal watching the code, and you don't have to encrypt that.

I don't think you should always practice clean, neatly layed out code. To me its like taking pride in my craft

I like clean code. It's more about housekeeping than SEO - if your code is clean, it's easier to maintain and it works properly on more browsers. Any SEO benefit is a bonus.

I would suggest removing whitespace to the point where it is still nice and readable. I would rather waste a few bytes of extra whitespace to have nice readable indented code. You can make up for this by gzipping your code, not going silly with comments and coding efficiently.

Yeah, coding is a craft. Be proud of your code, especially if your audience is technical.

Hand code your html, and learn the ins and out of html, and typically this type of technique you are referring to is called onsite optimization, but I would highly suggest learning html, I have been programming for years since I been 13, and when I first started I always tried using dreamweaver, front page, but make sure you stay away from these types of programs, learn seo, html, hand code, and you will be fine, the white space has nothing to do with anything.
