How do you who to trust?
I know there is a lot of information out there about seo. SO how do you guys figure out what's true or not? Personally I am finding it harder and harder to decide what actually works and what doesn't.
Thank you

I prefer hiring people I know from forums, those who have been around and good members. In their cases it's also very easy to get reliable feedback on them.

Actually I don't easily do their suggestion unless I don't here it to others. And if I think their suggestion don't hurt my site I do their suggestion.

There is a lot of seo information on the internet. I think it is up to the person whom to trust and what to trust. It is on your own strategy or what to do

You have to steer a fine line between believing the SEO community consensus (and often there isn't one) and your own personal experience. But you can pretty much take this thread to the bank: http://www.v7n.com/forums/seo-forum/...rself-seo.html

IMO, forums are one of the best source of seo information. since a lot of people are there sharing opinions and knowledge as well.

Try the information you gathered and see it for yourself.

lol you don't
Trust someone that you think wantts to make your company suceed, free information is hard to obtain from a professional seo, and then again they can tell you everything, but its more of something you have to learn on your own, no college can give you the type of tools as what you learn on your own, yes college can teach you knowledge to understand certain things better, but when its comes down to it, a trade secret is a trade secret, alls I can say is keep practicing and see what works.

Basically, you can trust anything John Scott or I tell you.
Unless we disagree, then I'm correct.

And at the other hand, SEO is highly-over-egaggerated as a profession by most of those self-proclaimed seo professionals out there, even those who are 'well known'. Anyone with one braincel more than the avarage cow can learn seo in not more than an hour.
Reason that seo professionals don't tell you how easy it really is, is because they want your business. The not-so-easy part is to get links from other sites but apart from some time, and maybe some money to buy links it's about all there is to seo. Really.
Of course there is the issue of 'branding', to get your name and logo 'known' and that takes some strategy of which you can either consult marketing professionals or, like with seo, learn how to do that yourself.
In my experience, no professional can do either seo or marketing better than you can do that for your own company once you know how.

Ferre, I'd have to totally agree with you on that, just like my father he runs multiple business large size business every consider them as companies but we consider them as business lol, but he always says he don't want anyone else running it, and he wants to do all the sales him self, and talk to people becuase no one can run it the way that he wants, and has as much as desire for it.
 good one ferre

Speaking as a professional SEO, I'd say Ferre is sort of right. It's a transparent business that many SEOs paint as being some sort of arcane art. I think it boils down to how scrupulous/painstaking you are. Generally speaking, hiring an SEO guy should cost you a fair bit less than giving someone a salary to do it in-house for you, for pretty much the same results. If you can do it yourself and have the time to do it, that's great, but most people don't have the time and there's a fair amount of repetitive stuff like directory submissions and link requests that any decent SEO should take in his stride whereas, to the average business owner, that's a pain in the backside.
On the whole, Ferre's right, as per usual. SEO is straightforward.

SEO is about how much results the company gets the clients, not about how much the people know or how well their own site ranks.

How do you know who to trust? Hmm, I visit forums and blogs. I try to learn as much about the person giving the advice. I look at their websites and then if I don't think it will hurt my site, I'll test it out myself.

I'm more like the person who observes first before I try something out. So if one strategy seems to work well for a site I've been watching, then I might try that strategy out.
I also visit forums for more info and knowledge. It's better to be well-informed before trying out things that are new to you.
