To quote the linked article, and the model from Barry Loyd (MakeMeTop, who I will say are certainly a major UK SEO company):

"Traffic you get going directly to your Web site is not charged for -- only traffic we generate on a separate Web site..."

"...We are, in essence, selling traffic..."

It's crap, they're f***ing their clients. They know they aren't serving their clients interests. It's that simple. If they were serving their clients' interest, they would make their clients rank well. But no, let's do it on 'a separate website'.

OK, there's no law against it, but it's very plain that they operate on a 'me-first' basis.

So, that pricing model is another reason for people to hate SEOs.

While we don't offer a pricing model like this, I don't see any problem with it if the client is made aware of the implications of this. If the client stops paying in this model, the benefits go away immediately.

I have issues when companies sell such a service as true SEO, however.
