Horrible Alexa Error?

Hello,

Hopefully, somebody would be kind enough to help me understand what the HECK just happened to my Alexa "sites that link here" statistics.

We own www.whispy.com and while checking my stats on Alexa today I noticed that all of a sudden after 6 years, under "Sites that link here" is now a 1?!! We had 1600 or more for the past several years --and when I checked two days ago.

Help understanding if this is just a horrible error or if something else is the cause, would be GREATLY appreciated.

check your backlinks with yahoo. alexa is an awful tool to accurately judge your back links with.

Thanks for your reply. And I do realize that Alexa is nothing much to gauge your backlinks by--and my Google and Yahoo stats are fine, as usual.

Google: about 213 linking to www.whispy.com (which I kow is just a fraction)

I just can't imagine WHY ON EARTH Alexa would do this. Many of our advertisers (unfortunately) put allot of weight on Alexa's stats and I think to go from 1600 + to 1 is absurd and I'm bewildered ...

Why do we use Alexa as a ranking tool? I don't anymore and they should not exist at all :-)

The reason I even worried about it is because MOST of our advertisers DO CARE very much and ask about our Alexa stats quite frequently. I wonder why? A couple are big companies and should know better too ... one would think.

very true, and that is reality. People out there don´t know. They don´t understand this business very well, and since human beings want quick solutions, they prefer to look at numbers. Any numbers. And that is where PR and Alexa come in. Reality is that Alexa can mean something, but is so easy to manipulate, it´s much better to disregard the data than trying to figure out how it applies to your site:

We'll have to get the word out then. If looking at Alexa rankings will hurt your business, then you'll have to inform your market about the error.

I don't really find it necessary to always look at my Alexa ranking so I had no idea what happened. And I've always relied more on PageRank.

My Alexa has gone from 47k to 55k and traffic has actually increased, so I know for a fact that Alexa is not reliable.

lol 47k to 55k that's better then me. Las week I was 2.4 millions, then go back at 1.3 millions finally this week went to 1.8 millions with no changes eh eh eh that's a great and accurate tool, thanks alexa
