If your not using webmaster tools your not seo

I believe that using webmaster tools to get your site index is a must!
go to google and sign up for webmaster tools i use them religiously and your going to get indexed much faster than any site just using meta and site submissions.

I don't think using tools means that you are doing good SEO.
But of course, it may make it easier and more efficient.

When i first started designing sites i just used meta tags (naturaly) and submitted my sites to the search engines by using site submit features and i wondered why i was never indexed in google and people told me that google sandboxes new sites for 60 days blahh blahh so i started using the webmaster tools provided by google and i was indexed within a week.

the best way to get found by the search engines IMO is having backlinks to your site. 1 week is pretty quick though to get picked up and indexed.

Could not disagree more. Mostly useless data.

SEO isn't about getting your site indexed, not by a long shot.

I'll have to disagree, too. The tools make SEO methods easier and faster, but I don't necessarily think it's a must. I'm not using most SEO tools, for one, but I'm still making some progress.

But then again, I'm not in a hurry to get my site indexed in just one week like yours. Being indexed brings up an alarm in my head. Too fast and too sudden. I'm more on the conservative side, so I don't mind if my progress takes months as long as it rises steadily and with stability.

Text editor? Markup validator? Google Toolbar? I use Excel to organize my keywords for some sites. Is Excel a SEO tool now?

So, we need to decide what a SEO tool is, as same tool could be used for different purposes.
