How much weight do backlinks from .edu sites carry? Do they really help a site that much?

Some site it helps your site because google consider them as trusted site. My blog has a backlinks on .edu but I don't think if it can help my blog because google is not yet updating.

.edu backlinks from student pages don't help - in fact they have the same wieght as .com links. The whole reason .edu links help is that they are well-established and have a lot of trust. Student pages don't the same trust factor since they come and go.

Coming and going can be seen among all tld not specific to .edu sites. It is quite obvious you are going to be fussy when you consider any site in terms of traffic, page rank and reliability.
