Impact of Reciprocal Links on SEO
Hi Gurus,
What is the impact of Reciprocal Links on SEO. What you suggest? Many many reciprocal links or just few are good . Does it decrease your Search engine ranking to have hundreds of reciprocal links? I read somewhere in v7n forums that to many Reciprocal links are bad for SEO. Is that true?

One way links always have greater value than recips.
It isn't bad to do reciprocal linking, as long as you link out to quality sites.
When you ask about the hundreds of reciprocal links, just think " Does my site look good when I have 100 OBL's in one page ''...

Reciprocal linking is not just for any sites... good value is given if a sports site reciprocates to another sports site...
Reciprocal linking for non-related sites is invaluable!!!
Anyways, one-way links are lot better than reciprocal links.

Thanks guys.
One more question there are lots of sites which provide you reciprocal links. These sites requires you to upload a php/asp script on your reciprocal links page and their server automatically manages reciprocal links for you in appropriate categories. You just need to go to your admin panel on these sites and approve the link. Many of the sites which are providing reciprocal services are free to join. What you suggest should we join these sites? These sites also sell one way links should we buy those.

Nah i dont think those way of link exchanging is also worth anything, as these pages contain a lot of links in them and also the links are irrelated.
So the links in link-farms are of no value and i dont have any experience of buying links in these kinds of sites or pages.

Link exchange worked really good for me. I tried to keep it as relevant as possible. In any case, you can't be harmed for who is linking to you but once you link back you should always stay away from certain sites. Ie, stay away from PPC (porn, pillas and casinos )

Exchange links on "good" pages..pages with good pr and links pointing directly to the page...not a page with million other links tossed in. Content pages work best.
Cheers,
Ana

Well yes you could go through the sites link linkmarket.net monsterlinkswap.com they are good to an extent as they have a variety of sites and related to your niche.
Although one-way links are the rulers but reciprocal links are not dead! They have some value even if it's very small.
One more way you could go through reciprocals by contacting the webmasters of the sites that are related to yours.
Take care
Manish

Reciprocal link is a backlink for the site. I think too many backlinks are not bad for SEO unless you choose quality links and links that is related to your site.

I have a follow up question to "greatlogix" first question. What if he creates a web directory on a sub domain, place all reciprocal links in that directory and requests that the reciprocated links be channeled to the main site, could this work and if so, could he then go and get (figuratively speaking) 5000 links with this method and not be penalized?

Agree, the key is to ONLY link to sites that are relevant and of high quality.
Never link to a site outside completely outside of your niche (related is OK), and by all means don't link to trash sites that are just made for ads or have links out to bad neighborhoods.

As for me, link exchange also help your site to increase back links.Just get quality related link for your site.Much better if you do one way link.
