Setting keywords!!!

What are the points you consider before setting keyword for website pages? How do you set the keywords? Suppose I have a site on computer then what should i do to select the ideal keywords for my site.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

first i gather my 'targeted keywords' by studying the content of my site and what the site is all about. then, after listing it, i try to search for its 'searches per month' to see how many people is searching for that particular keyword.

its useless to optimize a site for a keyword that is not even searched by a single person...

gather all the possible keywords that you can use for your site, this will depend on what your site is all about. example are the major services and products of your site. as much as you can be SPECIFIC with your keywords. i mean don't just use computer, that's too general, there must be an accompanying term with that.

also, you can use different seo tools to check how competitive your keywords are.

from that you can finalize your targeted keywords.

Don't forget to find out how many competitors on that keyword.

Try to target first some 2 to 3 keywords before you go for a 1 word keyword.

This is a good point. Competition is very important. For some very competitive keywords (especially in your area – computers) you will have to hire a team of SEO professionals and spend thousands and thousands of dollars in order to achieve something. I don’t think you want to compete with Microsoft or Apple.

I´d actually take a look to the keywords your direct competitors are ranking for, and target them. Obviously, as it´s been said, you shouldn´t go for too competitive keywords, but you probably know who your direct competitors are, so you can do some benchmarking.

Think as a user and what keyword would you like to type on search engine to find the site. Make a list of keywords and use keyword suggestion tool target the keyword which is not too competitive but not less competitive. If you already decided on what keyword to target create your content using your targeted keywords. Create a good combination of word with your targeted keywords in your title and meta description. Use keywords on alt tags of an image.
